Frequently asked questions

Plain answers to the questions we hear most often about Bookhead for Shopify.

info

Bookhead for Shopify is a Shopify-only integration. Your books sync to your Shopify store and nowhere else.

Does this app list my products on any other platform?

No. Bookhead for Shopify writes only to your own Shopify store. It does not list, post, publish, or sync your products to any other platform or sales channel. When you use this app, the books you bring in go to your Shopify store and nowhere else.

Does using this app stop me from selling elsewhere?

No. This app simply doesn't touch anything outside your Shopify store — it neither requires nor prevents anything you do elsewhere. Its job is narrow: take inventory from your source, enrich it, and keep your Shopify products accurate.

Is my Shopify store the source of my inventory?

No. New books always come from an outside source — a distributor file or manual entry. Bookhead reads your Shopify catalog only to keep your inventory in sync (to recognize books you already carry, avoid duplicates, and update the right product). See Choosing your inventory source.

What does the app write to my store?

For each book you bring in, Bookhead creates or updates a Shopify product with a cover image, bibliographic data (title, author, publisher, format, description, and more), and your price and quantity. See How syncing works.

What does the app read from my store?

It reads your existing Shopify catalog so it can match incoming books to products you already have. This read is what prevents duplicates and lets Bookhead update the correct product when a quantity or price changes. Reading is for sync only — it is never treated as a source of new inventory.

Does Bookhead change products I created myself on Shopify?

Bookhead matches incoming books to existing products by ISBN so it can keep them in sync. When a book you bring in matches one already on your store, that product is updated (for example, its quantity) rather than duplicated.

How do new books get added in bulk?

Through a distributor file. When you receive a shipment, you hand Bookhead the file that came with it and Bookhead creates an enriched product for each title. See Importing a distributor file.
